About

I build what I design,so nothing gets lostbetween a mockupand the real thing.

Portrait of Michael Cheng

I'm Michael Cheng, a solo UI/UX designer in Sacramento, working remotely. I design and build web apps and games, and I take them from branding through design, prototyping and testing to shipping and marketing.

Before UI/UX I spent years in Los Angeles as a graphic designer, copywriter, social media manager and digital marketing manager for startups. That background is why I work end to end: I bring care and craft to every level, from the logo to the launch campaign.

My clients have rangedfrom Hollywood A-listersto national law firms, and from international game studiosto regional grocery stores.

How I work

My practice is built on user-centered design and a holistic view that weighs human psychology, creative and technical considerations together.

I use agentic workflows, harnesses and design patterns every day, and I'm unapologetic about the value of the human element in great creative work.

The name

My Chinese name, which is also my English middle name, translates to "100 blessings." Hundredfold pays homage to that. It also captures the spirit of my process and approach: bold maximalism, intertextuality, and a fractal nature in which the same care repeats at every scale.

Selected work

The Robots & Runes home page. On a starlit navy-to-violet background, a gold pixel-font headline reads 78 Hugo & Nebula novels, 1966 to 2025, beside the covers of the 2025 Hugo winner, The Tainted Cup, and the 2025 Nebula winner, Someone You Can Build a Nest In.

Robots & Runes

A guide to Hugo and Nebula award-winning science fiction and fantasy, built for one course, restructured through IA testing in another, and still maintained.

The Your Positions screen on a phone, in a deep green interface. A strip at the top reads Roster 7 of 12, 2 of 6 bids, Maximum Bid $18.0M. Below, Derrick White is listed as won for $16.5M, and two amber Outbid cards follow. Saddiq Bey's says the next legal bid of $4.0M is within reach; Chet Holmgren's says you cannot re-enter at $21.5M, which exceeds your Maximum Bid of $18.0M by $3.5M.
Simulated auction activity; apart from mine, the manager names are invented.
